Amvale Medical - Our Story
Amvale Ltd began its journey in 1985, founded by our CEO, Mike, who at just 30 years old, saw a need and set out to meet it. What started as a small motor trade business offering vehicle sales and rentals quickly evolved into something more impactful. Mike recognised a critical gap in local transport services—particularly for children with disabilities. At the time, support in this area was limited, and investment was nearly non-existent. With a drive to make a difference and a vision for accessible, inclusive transport, Amvale took its first steps into specialist medical and community-focused transport solutions. It didn’t take long for Mike to Identify local transport needs within the surrounding Councils. At this point it was evident that a niche market was found. Mike had identified that transport for children with disabilities was in dire need of improvement and there was little or no investment in this area.

Safety is Paramount
As the company grew, Amvale established its dedicated Special Needs Transport division, headquartered in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire. From the outset, this service was built on one core principle—safety first. At a time when vehicle safety standards were still developing, Amvale led the way with specially adapted vehicles designed to meet the unique needs of children with disabilities. These vehicles featured enhanced seatbelt systems, secure wheelchair anchoring, and a strong focus on reliability. This commitment to innovation led to the creation of the “Assurance Safety Bus,” a purpose-built transport solution that set new standards for safety and care. The vehicle was later adopted by the local council for direct use, a testament to its forward-thinking design. Today, vehicle safety laws have evolved significantly, but we take pride in knowing that Amvale played a role in shaping those improvements during a pivotal time in accessible transport.
In recognition of our dedication to delivering the safest and highest quality transport for children, Amvale was proudly named “Britain’s Safest Fleet” at the prestigious National Fleet Awards. This accolade reflects our ongoing commitment to safety, innovation, and care in every journey we provide. We’re also honoured to have received the “Business of Excellence” award from the North Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce—an achievement that highlights not only our operational standards, but also our valued role within the local community and business landscape. It didn’t take long for Mike to Identify local transport needs within the surrounding Councils. At this point it was evident that a niche market was found. Compassion as Standard
Many years ago, it was from our good reputation in Lincolnshire and Humberside that we were approached by our local hospitals to provide a Patient Transport Services (PTS) and since then this still continues today, with many local people being employed within this service. In addition, since 1998 we have provided transport for Bloods, Organs and National Organ Retrieval Teams for the United Kingdom with Transport for Transplant.
Consequently, Mike made the decision to make a large investment in these areas and it was not long before we became heavily involved in both PTS and Transport for Transplant. It is with great pride that we continue to provide these services to NHS Trust's and Hospitals for transport requirements for land, air and sea in the United Kingdom. Vital Community Services
Over the years Amvale has also expanded into other areas including Paramedic Ambulances, Emergency Department Support, Mental Health Transport, Secure Transport, Emergency Medical Teams, Hospital Call Control, Medical Training, Coaches and other Motor Trade activities. This is why in 1998 Amvale Medical Transport Limited was evolved, as a separate part of the Amvale Ltd group, and now celebrating more than 20 years of business independently. In December 2019, Amvale Medical Transport Ltd expanded their business to include another Ambulance Station located in Glasgow, known as Amvale Scotland Ltd.
Mike Godfrey is always looking at transport related areas that need improvement and we are sure that the adventure will continue as his quest for safe reliable transport continues. We are proud to have been a part of this journey over all these years and have seen hundreds of employees obtain work locally and nationally due to the success of Amvale.
